中考常考同义词辨析1.say, speak, talk, tell

这四个词都有“说”的意思,其用法差异主要在于各自强调的对象、内容不同。

(1) say的意思是“说”、“讲”、“说出”,是及物动词,强调“说”的内容。不仅可指口头“说”,而且可指书面“说”。

eg: ① He said nothing to me. 他对我什么也没说。

② He said in his letter that he was getting on well with his life.

他在信中说,他生活得很好。

(2) speak表“说”、“讲”,它可以表示任何一种方式的“说话”。它着重“说话”这一动作本身,而不强调所“说”的内容。它通常为不及物动词,但它也可以作及物动词,后接the language、the truth、aword等,或接表示语言名称的名词。

eg: ①Please speak more slowly and clearly. 请说慢些和清楚些。

②Who is speaking? 你是谁?(打电话时用语)

③Can you speak Japanese? 你会讲日语吗?

(3) talk表示“交谈”、“谈话”,它指连贯地与人交谈,着重指说话的动作,而不强调说话的内容。它一般用作不及物动词。

eg: ①What are you talking about? 你们在谈论什么?

②We are talking about the Chinese footballmatch.

我们在谈论中国足球比赛。

(4) tell表“告诉”、“讲述”之意,是及物动词,常强调所讲的内容,不表示动作。

重点句式:tell sb. sth = tell sth to sb. 告诉某人某事

eg: He told me nothing. = He toldnothing to me.

他什么也没告诉我。

tell sb. (not) to do sth. 告诉某人(不)去做某事

eg: He told us not to worry abouthim.

他告诉我们不要为他担心。

tell sb. +that-clause/who-clause 告诉某人……

eg: He told me that he was coming.

他告诉我说他要来。

固定搭配:sayhello/good bye/sorry to sb. 向某人问候/告别/道歉

say “ yes ” to sb . = agree with sb. 同意某人

say “ no ” to sb. = disagree with sb. 不同意某人

固定搭配:speak to sb. 对某人说话

speak highly of 称赞

speak one’s mind 说心里话; 直言不讳

固定搭配:talk with/to sb. 和某人谈话

talk about sb./sth. 谈论某人/某事

talk with sb. about sth. = talkabout sth. with sb. 和某人谈论某事

2、spend, pay, cost, take

(1) spend vt. “花费(时间,精力,财力等)”,行为的主体只能是人,其常用结构是“sb. spend time/money on sth./(in)doing sth. 在……上花时间/金钱”。

eg: I spend two hours on myhomework every day.

=I spend two hours (in) doing my homework every day.

我每天花两小时做家庭作业。

此外,spend 还有“度过”的意思,如 spend one’s holiday “度假”。

(2) pay vt. & vi. sb. pay(money) for sth. 某人为某物付(钱)

sb, pay sb. sth = sb. pay sth. tosb. 某人付(钱)给某人

此外,pay 还可以当名词用,意思是“工资”、“薪水”。

(3) cost vt.“花费”,其常用结构是:sth. cost sb money/time 某物花费某人钱/时间。

eg:this dictionary cost me 50 yuan. 这本字典花费了我50元。

此外,cost还可作名词,表“成本,费用”:the cost of living 生活费。

固定搭配:at all costs 不惜任何代价,无论如何

(4)take其常用结构是it takes sb. stime. to do sth

3.Wear, put on, dress, have on, bi in, bedressed in

put on 和dress 表动作,其他的都表示状态。

(1) put on “穿上,戴上” ,宾语是衣服、鞋帽等。

(2) dress + sb. / oneself “给某人穿衣服”,但注意英文中宾语不能是,只能是。

eg: the mother dresses her baby everymorning.

这位母亲每天早晨给她的孩子穿衣服。

(3) wear 常指“穿着”、“戴着”的状态,宾语是衣服、鞋帽等。它还有“留(长发),蓄(胡子)”等意思。

(4) have on 指“穿着”、“戴着”的状态,不表示动作,不用进行时,因为它本身就有进行时的含义:“有……在身上”。

(5) be in, be dressed in后面不仅可接“衣服”,还可接“颜色”,这是与前面几个词和短语的用法不同的。

4.begin, start

begin和start都有“开始”、“着手”之意,在很多情况下二者可以换用。但在下列情况下只用 start, 不用 begin:

(1) 意为“出发”、“动身”时。

eg:Theystarted (out) for London.他们动身前往伦敦。

(2) 意为“诞生”、“成立”时。

eg: They started a study group last week.

上周他们成立了一个学习小组。

(3) 意为“发动、开动”时。

eg: The old car won’s start. 那部旧车发动不起来了。

[注意]begin 和 start 后均可接不定式或动名词,但在下列三种情况下,只接不定式:

当主语是物而不是人时。

It begin (started) to rain. 天气开始下雨了。

当begin 和 start 用进行时态时。

I am beginning/starting to cook supper.我正开始做晚餐。

当begin 和 start 后接表示心理活动或精神状态的动词时。

I began/started to understand her. 我开始理解她了。

5. enjoy,like, love

(1) 意义上其区别在于表达感情的程度不同。 Like 表示的时一般意义上的“喜欢”,不带感情色彩,其反义词为 dislike; love 语气强,相当于汉语的“爱”、“热爱”,其反义词为 hate ; enjoy 是带有欣赏性质的“喜欢”、“喜爱”,且有“享受”之意。从结构上看,like 与 love 后均可接名词、动名词或动词不定式,而 enjoy 后只接名词或动名词。

eg: He likes to smoke/smoking. 他喜欢抽烟。

I love my country. 我热爱我的祖国。

Children enjoy reading picture-storybooks. 儿童爱看连环画。

(2) 在口语中,love可用作 like。

eg: I love to go/going to the cinema, 我喜欢看电影。

I would love/like to have strong tea, 我喜欢喝浓茶。

(3) 表示异性之间的爱只能用 love。

eg: I like him , but I don’t love him. 我喜欢他,但并不爱他。

6. arrive, get, reach

(1) 这三个词都有“到达”的意思,但 arrive 和 get 为不及物动词,后接名

词时要加介词; reach 是及物动词,后面直接跟表示地点的名词。而且 arrive in + 大地方/ arrive at + 小地方。

Eg: arrive in Beijing= get to Beijing = reach Beijing

Arrive at the station = get to station= reach the starion

(2) arrive 和get 后接地点副词时,不加介词。

Eg: arrive home/here/there = gethome/here/there

到家/到达这里/到达那里

7. hope, wish, expect

(1) 这三词都有“希望”的意思,但含义有区别。 Wish 后接不易达到的“愿望”;hope 后接相信可以达到的“希望”;expect 指有把握,有信心的一种“期望”,常含“等待发生”之意,就词义而言比 hope 深重很多。这三个词都可接动词不定式作宾语。 Wish 和 expect还可接不定式做宾语补足语,但 hope 则不能。

wish/hope/expect to do sth wish/expect sb. to do sth,

eg: I hope to see you soon. 我希望不久能见到你,

He wishes to go with you. 他想与你一道去。(但不行)

We expect to return next Friday. 我们期望下周五回来。

Do you wish me to leave now?

你要为现在就走吗?(此结构不能用hope)

I expect you to do as you are told. 我期待你能按要求做。

(2)这三个词都可接 that 从句,只是因为 wish 表示额愿望难以实现,所以从句中的谓语动词通常用虚拟语气。

比较:Ihope (that)hewill come tomorrow.

我希望他明天能来。

I wish he cold come tomorrow.

要是他明天能来就好了。(明天很可能来不了)

I wish that I were you. 真希望我是你。(不可能的事)

(3) wish 可用来表示祝愿,而 hope 和 expect 则不可。

eg: I wish you suceess/good luck. 我祝你成功/好运。

Wish you a happy new year ! 祝你新年快乐!

(4) hope 和 expect 可以和so或 not 连用,表示希望、期待某事会发生或不会发生,而 wish 则不可。

eg: ---wiii it be fine tomorrow? 明天天气会好吗?

---I hope so/I hope not. 我希望如此、我不希望这样。

---Is she coming ? 她会来吗?

---I expect so/not. 我想会来、我不会来。

(5) 作名词时, wish 表示人的主观愿望, hope 表示客观可能。

eg: I have no wish to go. 我不想去。

I have no hope of going. 我没希望去。

8. have to, must

(1) have to 表示由于客观环境或条件的要求而“必须,不得不”;must 表示说话人的主观要求和看法。

eg: It’s time for class now. I have to go.

上课时间到了,我不得不走了。

I must go home now. 我现在必须回家

(2) have to 的否定式为 “不必”的意思;而 must 的否定式是“绝不可”的意思,两者大不相同。

eg: You don’t have to hand in your homework today,

你们不必今天交家庭作业。

You musten’t be late. 你绝不能迟到。(不用 don’t have to)

(3) must 可表示推测,用在肯定句中,译成“一定”;have to 不能这样。

eg:He must be ill. 他一定生病了。

You must have known the news. 你当时一定知道这个消息。

(4) have to 有更多的时态变化,must 则无时态变化。

Eg: if you are ill, you’ll have to see doctor.

如果你生病了,你就得去看医生。

He told me that he had to go. 他告诉我说他必须去。(过去式)

(5) must 的肯定回答用 must,否定回答则用 needn’t,|而 have to 则没有这种变化。

Eg:---must I go now? 我现在必须走吗?

---yes, you must,/no, you needn’t. 是的。/不,你不必走。

9. look (at), see,watch, read

这四个词都有“看”之意,但用法各不相同。主要表现在:

(1) look 指“看”的过程,强调动作,是不及物动词,跟宾语时要加 at 。

(2) see 指“看见”、“看到”,强调“看”的结果,不能用进行时。See 是及物动词,可直接带宾语,多用于“看电影、看戏、看展览”等。

(3) watch 指为了欣赏或某种特定的目的而“观看”、“注视”。它侧重于目的性和动作过程,常用于“看电视”、“看球赛”等活动。

(4) read 多用于看文字性的东西,如“看书”、“看报”等。

Eg: I looked around, but saw nobady.

我向四周环顾,但没看见任何人。

He is looking at me. 他正打量着我。

Blindpeople can’t see. 盲人看不见。

Let’tgo to watch the football match. 我们去看足球赛吧。

Hewas reading the newspaper when I came in.

我进去的时候他在看报。

10. through, across, cross, crossing

(1) through prep. “贯穿、穿过”,指时间、空间上从一端通到另一端,表纵向,有 in 含义。

Eg: go through a forest 穿过森林。

Through the window/door/hall 通过窗户/门/穿过大厅

(2) across prep. “横穿”,指从中间横越,即 from one side to anorher (从一边到另一边)。

(3) cross v.横穿,横过,渡过

n. 十字架;十字形物

adj. 脾气坏的,生气的

eg: cross the street = go across the street

the Red Cross (Society) 红十字会

11. beautiful, pretty,handsome, lovely, good-looling, find

这几个形容词都有“漂亮的”、“好看的”之意,使用时一要注意修饰的对象,尤其时男女之别;二要注意其含义。

(1) beautiful “美丽的”,形容人时通常用于女性,也可修饰或景色等给以愉快印象或美好感受的事物。

Eg: beautifulgirl/face/flower/picture/garden/place/colors/clothes/music/voice 漂亮的姑娘/俊秀的脸庞/美丽的花朵,图画儿,花园,地方,色彩,衣服/悦耳的音乐,声音

(2) pretty “美丽的,漂亮的,可爱的”,通常用来形容少女或年轻妇女的娇美或小巧玲珑,但没有 beautiful |词义那么强,不用于男性。

*pretty 还可用作副词,多在肯定句中,意为“相当,颇,非常”。

Eg: ---how was your vacation ?

---pretty good. = very good. = quite good,.

(3) handsome 主要指男性“眉清目秀”,“仪表堂堂”。

Eg: he looks tall, handsome and healthy.

他看上去高大、英俊、健壮。

(4) lovely “美丽的”、“可爱的”,多用来形容令人喜悦、赞赏或惹人爱怜的人或物,感情色彩较浓。该词强调外貌和外形的美,而不是品德,且多用于女子和天气、景色等。

Eg: a lovely girl 可爱的女孩

Alovely view 美丽的景色

It’sa lovely day. 天气真好。

(5) good-looking“好看的”,既可用于男性,也可用于女性。

Eg: Jack and Anna are a young good-lookingcouple.

杰克和安娜是一对漂亮的年轻夫妇。

(6) fine “优美的,精细的,身体好的,天气好的”

eg: a fine coat 一件漂亮的大衣

finesilk/gold/work 细绸、纯金、细活

I’mfine. = I’m very well 我身体很好。

It’ta fine day today. 今天天气好。

12.little, small, tiny

(1) little “小的”,与 big, great 相对,带有主观的感情色彩,表示“小的可爱”、“小的可怜”等意思。在表示少时,little 强调数量少。Little 不可作表语,只作定语。

Eg: her child is s nice littlething, 她的孩子是个可爱的小家伙。

I gave him the little money Ihad. 我把仅有的一点钱都给了他。

(2) small “小的”,与 large 相对,针对某人或某物的体积、尺寸而言,不含感情色彩。Small 可作定语和表语。

Eg: this boy is small for his age,

这个男孩依年龄来看是个小个子。

Thisis a small letter. 这是个小写字母。(没有感情色彩)

(3) tiny “极小的”,比 little 和 small 更强调小的程度。

Eg: he lived in a tiny room by himself.

他独自住在一间很小的房间。

13.few, afew, little, a bit

(1) few 和a few 后接可数名词,little 和 a little 后接不可数名词。

(2) few 和little 意为“很少,几乎没有”,表否定;a little 和 a few 意为“有几个”,“有一点”,表肯定。

Eg: hurry up. There is little time left,

快点,没有时间了。

Don’tworry. There is still a little time left.

别着急,还有一点时间。

Hehas few friends, so he is very lonely.

他几乎没有朋友,所以他感到很孤独。

注意:onlya little = little

Onlya few = few

当 a few 前有另一个形容词或定冠词修饰时,a 要去掉。

Eg:in the past few years . 在过去的几年中。

Every few hundred meters 每隔几百米。

(3) alittle与a bit修饰形容词和副词时,两者可以互换。

Eg: I am a little tired. = I am a bit tired.我有一点累。

(4) alittle与a bit的不同点:

修饰名词时:a little + n. = a bit of + n.

表达否定时:not a bit = not at all 一点也不

Not a little = quite a little 许多

14. also,too, either, as well

(1) also表“也“,只用于肯定句中,多用于书面语,其位置是在实义动词之前或连系动词之后。

Eg: She also plays football. 她也踢足球。

He is a teacher, and he is also a writer.

他是一位老师,也是一位作家。

(2) too表“也”,多用于口语,且只用于肯定句或疑问句中,没有also正式。它一般放在句末,其前常有逗号;或插入句中,作插入语。

Eg : Can’t you see I’ve got tooth,too?

你难道没有看见我也有牙齿吗?

You, too, may have a try. 你也可以试一试。

(3) either表“也”,只用于否定句中,而且只能放在句末,其前也有逗号。

Eg: If you don’t go, I shall not, either.

如果你不去,我也不去。

I haven’t seen him, either. 我也没有见过他。

(4) as well表“也,而且”,和too用法差不多,常用于非正式场合,放在句

末,但其前不用逗号。

Eg:Hespeaks English as well. 他也讲英语。

15. in,after, behind

(1) in和after均可接表时间段的名词,表示“在……时间之后”。但in + 一段时间(用一般将来时),after + 一段时间(用一般过去时)。

Eg: He will come back in a fewdays. 他过几天就回来。

He died after a few days. 几天后他死了。

(2) after还可接表具体时间的名词,而in一般不可以。

Eg: He will come here after three o’clockthis afternoon.

他今天下午3点钟以后来这儿。

(3) after还可表次序,含有“连接”的意思。

Eg: After you! 你先请。

Day after day/year after year 日复一日/年复一年

B comes after A; C comes after B.

字母B在A之后,C在B之后。

(4) behind往往表示位置或方向的前后,不表示时间。

Eg: There is a garden behind thehouse. 房子后面有一个花园。

He sits behind me. 他坐在我后面。

16.above, over, on

(1) above意为“在……上方”, 它所描述的对象与参照物不接触,且只表示“位置高于”,但不一定“垂直在上”,其反义词为below,意为“在……下方”。

Eg: The mountain is 2000 metresabove the sea.

此山海拔高度有2000米。

(2) over意为“在……之上”,它所描述的对象与参照物也不接触,但“垂直在上”,其反义词是under,意为“在……之下”。此外,over还有“多于……”、“超过……”的意思,这时它相当于more than。

Eg: There is a bridge over theriver. 河上有一座桥。

My grandpa is over/more than eighty. 我爷爷有80多岁了。

(3) on意为“在……上面”,所描述的对象与参照物接触,其反义词为beneath,意为“在……下面”。

Eg: The book is on the desk. 书在课桌上。

17.sometime, sometimes, some time

(1) sometime指过去或将来不确定的“某一时间”或“任何时候”,它不表示一段时间。

Eg: I saw him sometime inMay. 我在五月某个时候看见过他。

We’ll take our holiday sometime in Auguest.

我们将在八月某个时候去度假。

(2) sometimes = at times,指“有时”、“不时”,表示频度,可以指过去、现在或将来的时间概念。

Eg: I sometimes have letters frommy father.

我不时收到父亲的来信。

Sometimes she comes here by bus and sometimes on foot.

她有时乘公共汽车来,有时步行来。

(3) some time指“一段时间”

Eg:I stayed in Beijingfor some time last summer.

18.sound, noise, voice

(1) sound泛指能够听得到的任何“声音”。Sound还可当系动词用,意为“听起来”。

Eg: The sound of thunder soundsterrible. 雷声听起来可怕。

(2) noise指嘈杂、喧哗、吵闹等令人不愉快的“声音”或“噪音”。

Eg: Stop making so much noise. 别吵了。

(3) voice意为“嗓音”,主要指人说话或唱歌的声音。

Eg: He voice sounds sweet. 她的声音很悦耳。

19.beside, besides, except, except for, but

(1) 这几个词都可用介词,但含义不同。Beside = next to,意为“在……旁边”;Besides意为“除……之外”(除开的部分包括在内);except意为“除……之外”(除开的部分不包含在内);except for意为“除了……”(除开的部分是整体的一部分)。

Eg: Come and sit beside ( = nextto ) me. 来坐在我旁边。

Besides Chinese and maths, we also learn English and other subjects.

除了语文和数学外,我们还学英语和其他学科。

We all went to the Great Wallexcept Xiao Wang.

除了小王之外,我们都去了长城。(小王没去)

His composition is very goodexcept for a few spelling mistakes.

除了几个拼写错误,他的作文写得很好。

(2) but作介词用时意为“除……之外”,可与except互换,但but常与否定词连用。

Eg: No one but him is interestedin playing the guiter.

除了他之外,没有人对弹吉他感兴趣。

* but还可与who, where等疑问词,以及all, every one等不定式词连用。

Eg: Who but you would do such athing?

除你以外,还有谁愿意干这种事?

All but her are here. 除也她以外,大家都到齐了。

20. inthe way, on the way, in a way, by the way

in the/one’s way 妨碍,挡道

on the/one’s way 在去……的路上

in a way 从某方面看,在某种意义上

by the way 顺便说一句

eg: Don’t stand in the/my way. 不要妨碍我。

on my/the way to school 在我上学的路上

on my/the way home 在回家的路上

In a way he is right. 从某方面看他是对的。

By the way, where are you going? 顺便问问,你去哪儿?

21. “许多”的多种表达及用法区别

(1) many = quite a few = a number of + 可数名词复数

(2) much = quite a little = a great deal of +不可数名词

(3) a lot of = lots of = plenty of + 可数名词复数或不可数名词

Eg:There are a number of books in the library.

图书馆有许多书。

Heseems to have a great deal of money. 他好像很有钱。

There are plenty of / lots of / a lot of / eggs in the house.

房子里有许多鸡蛋。

There is plenty of / a lot of/ lots of time. 时间充裕得很。

22.before long, long before

(1) before long = soon“不久以后”,只作副词短语,在句中作状语。

Eg: She’ll get well before long if yougive her good care.

如果你好好照料她,她不久就会好的。

(2) long before“很久以前”

副词,用作时间状语,与完成时态连用。

Eg: She has studied English longbefore. 她学英语很久了。

介词,后接动名词短语。

Eg: I had known him long before theliberation.

解放前很多我就认识她了。

连词,后接时间状语从句。

Eg: The earth existed long before mancame into being.

早在人类出现以前,地球就已经存在了。

23.learn, study

(1) 若表示“学习某一具体事情”或“向某人学习”,应用learn而不用study。

Eg: He is learning to swim. 他在学游泳。

We should learn from Comrade Lei Feng.

我们应该向雷锋同志学习。

(2) learn含有“因不知而学习”或“学会”、“学到”、“了解到”的意思,着

重结果;study则含有“努力学习”或“研究”的意思,重动作。

Eg: If you study hard, you’lllearn English quickly.

只要你努力学习,你会很快学会英语的。

He is studying Chinese history. 他正在研究中国历史。

(3) 如果只表示“学”、“学习”这一概念,二者可以互换。

Eg: We are going to study / learn a new lessontoday.

我们今天学新课。

24. toomuch, much too

(1) too much意为“太多”,指超过了一定的限度,后接不可数名词。它也可

单独使用。

Eg: I am sorry I have given youtoo much trouble.

对不起,我给你添了太多的麻烦。

He ate too much. 他吃得太多了。

(2) much too意为“太……”、“非常”,后接形容词或副词。

Eg: The shoes are much too large for me.

这鞋我穿起来实在是太大了。

*这两上词组在合用时,均以后一个词为主,即much too的重心是too(太),

too much的重心是much(多)。

25. real,true

(1) real表示客观存在的,是“真的,实在的”,而不是幻想或想象的事物。

它的反义词是unreal。

Eg: This is a real gun. 这是一把真枪。(不是假造的)

I’m learning to skate on real ice! 我在真正的冰上学滑冰呢!

(2) true表示与事实相符,它的反义词是false(假的)。

Eg: He who does not reach the Great Wallis not a true man.

不到长城非好汉。

Is the news true? 这消息是真的吗?

26. high,tall

(1) high作形容词时,通常修饰抽象名词或体积大和没有生命力的东西,如时间、速度、价格、山、房屋等。它的反义词是low。

Eg: He drives at a highspeed. 他高速驾驶。

a high price / cost 高价格 / 高费用

a high fever / temperature 高烧 / 高温

in a high voice 大声地

* high还可作副词,常指具体的“高”或“高度”。

Eg: The plane flew high. 那架飞机飞得高。

I can jump very high. 我能跳得很高。

(2) tall仅用作形容词,多用来说明人的个子高,其反义词为short。

Eg: I’m taller than you. 我比你高。

(3) 指建筑物的高度一般两者可用。

Eg: a high / tall building 高楼

a high / tall chimney 高烟囱

(4) 指底面积小的东西,一般两者都可用。

Eg: a high / tall tree 一棵高大的树

a high / tall flag-pole 一根很高的旗杆

27. fast, quick

(1) fast adj.& adv.指运动中的速度“快”、“迅速”。

Eg: a fast walker 走路快的人

It often rains and the cropsgrow fast.

经常下雨,庄稼长得快。

(2) quick adj.指动作突然、短暂、急速、紧迫,含有“即刻,毫不延迟、行动敏捷”的意味。

Eg: a quick answer 迅速的回答

Bequick! 快点!

He gave her a quick kiss. 他突然吻了她一下。

28. each,every

(1) each可作形容词和代词,在句中可作定语、主语或同位语;every只作形容词,在句中只作定语。

Eg: Each one of us went there. =Each of us went there. = We each went there.

我们每个人都去了那儿。

Every one of us went there. 我们每个人都去了那儿。

(不可以说:Every of us went there.)

(2) each指两个或两上以上的“每个”,而every指三个或三个以上的“每个”。下面两例只可用each。

Eg: There are some trees on either/ each side of the road.

路的两边都有树。

The bridge has a tower at each end.

桥的两端各有一座塔。

(3) every可表示“每隔……”的意思,each却不能。

Eg: every two days. 每两天/ 每隔一天

every three weeks 每三周/ 每隔两周

29. till,until

(1) 相同点:这两个词都可用于肯定或否定句中,且都要注意以下两点:

用于肯定句时,主句中的谓语动词只能是延续性动词。

Eg: I’ll wait for my mother till / untilshe comes back.

我要一直等到我妈妈回来。

用于否定句时,主句中的谓语动词应当是短暂性动词。这时not…until/ till译成“直到……才”。

Eg: I didn’t go to bed last nightuntil / till I bad finished my homework.

我昨晚直到做完家庭作业才去睡觉。

(2) 不同点:

until既可放在句首,又可放在句中;till不能放在句首。

Eg: Until he returns, nothing canbe done.

在他回来这前,什么也不能做。

till的单词拼写中有两个“I”;until的单词拼写中只有一个“l”。

30.while, as, when

(1) while引导的时间状语从句中的谓语动词一定要是延续性动词。

while还可表对比,译为“而”。

Eg: Don’t talk so loud while others arestudying.

别人在学习的时候,不要大声讲话。

She likes singing, while I likedancing.

她喜欢唱歌,而我喜欢跳舞。

(2) as表示两个动作同时发生。

Eg: I saw him as he was getting off thebus.

当他下公共汽车时我看见了他。

(3) when引导的时间状语从句中的谓语动词既可以是延续性的,也可是短暂性的;既可表示同时发生,也可一先一后紧接着发生。所以,它有时在句中可替代while和as。

Eg: Come in when you have takenoff your coat.

把外衣脱了再进来。

Sorry, I was out when you called.

很抱歉,你打电话时我不在。

* when还可作并列连词,引导一个并列句,意为“那时”=and then,前面有逗号隔开。

Eg: He was going go bed, when aletter came.

他正在睡觉,这时来了一封信。

31.because, as, since, for

(1) because“因为”,作为从属连词引导原因状语从句时语气最强,表示直接、的理由,回答why的提问,其从句可放在主句前或主句后。

Eg: -- Why can’t you do it now? 你为什么现在不做?

-- Because I’m too busy. 因为我太忙了。

I didn’t come because I was ill. 我没来是因为我病了。

(2) as“由于”,作为从属连词引导原因状语从句时语气不如because强,它引导的从句常放在主句前,表示已经知道、显而易见或附带说明的理由,后面的主句则说明结果。

Eg: As he was very busy, I wentthere myself.

由于他很忙,我一个人到那儿去了。

As he was not ready in time, we went without him.

因为他未及时准备好,我们没等他就走了。

(3) since“因为,既然”,作为从属连词引导原因状语从句时,它表示的原因多是双方已知的,语气比because弱,其位置可在主句前或后。

Eg: Since everybody is here, let’sbegin.

既然大家都在这儿,我们就开始吧。

(4) for“因为”,作为并列连词引导并列句,多用于书面句中,表示附加说明的理由,不表示直接原因。它引导的分句只能放在主句之后,不能放在句首。

Eg: A storm would come, for it wasgetting very dark.

风暴即将来临,因为天变得很黑了。(天黑不是风暴来临的原因,而是推断风暴来临的附加理由)

32. lookfor, find, find out, found

(1) look for“寻找”, 强调动作,可以与表示一段时间的状语连用。

(2) find“找到,发现”,强调结果,不可和表示一段时间的状语连用,不能用、进行时态。

(3) find out“查明(究竟),弄清楚”,强调经过询问、调查,研究后才知道的结局。

(4) find的过去式是found,found作动词原形的意思是“建设”,其过去式是founded,使用时不要混淆。

Eg: -- What are you looking for? 你在找什么?

-- I’m looking for my pen. 我正在找我的钢笔呢。

I have looked for my lost child fortwo hours but can’t find him.

我寻找我那丢失的孩子已经两上小时了,但还没有找到。

Please find out when the train leaves.

请查一下火车何时开。

33.bring, take, carry, get

bring“带来、拿来”,指把某人、某物带到说话者所在的地方;take“拿去,拿走”,指把某人或某物从说话者处带到别处去;carry“携带、搬运”,指小心、费用地携带某人、某物,只强调动作的方式,不说明动作的方向;get“去拿来,取来”,相当于go and bring,和fetch同义,但用法比fecth广,口语中常用,常用在祈使句中。

Eg: I’ll bring you the booktomorrow.

我明天把那本书给你带来。

Take the book and put it in the bookcase.

把书拿走,放在书柜里。

34. be made of / from / into / in / by

(1) be made of“由……制造”,指原材料与产品没有发生本质的变化,可以看出该成品是用什么原料制成的。

Eg: This desk is made ofwood. 这张课桌是用木头做的。

(2) be made from“由……制造”,指原材料与产品发生了质的变化,不能分辨出该产品是用什么原料制成的。

Eg: Paper is made of wood. 纸是由木材制成的。

(3) be made into“被制成”,指用某原材料制成某产品,主语是原材料。

Eg: Wood is made into paper. 木材被制造成纸。

(4) be made in + 地点 意为:“由某地制造”

Eg: This kind of car is made of China. 这种小汽车是中国造的。

(5) be made by + 人 意为:“由某人制造或做”

Eg: This new coat was made by his mother.

这件新大衣是他妈妈做的。

35.already, yet, still

(1) already表示“已经”。它一般用于肯定句中,有时也用于疑问句中表示惊讶,谓语动词一般用完成时。

Eg: I’ve already heard the goodnews.

我已经听到这个好消息了。

(2) yet表示“已经,还”,一般用于疑问句或否定句中,位于句尾或助动词之后,谓语动词一般用完成时。

Eg: -- Have you got readyyet? 你准备好了吗?

-- No, not yet. 还没呢。

I haven’t told him about it yet. 我还没把这事儿告诉他呢。

(3) still表示“仍然,还”, 表示动作或状态的延续,修饰动词或形容词。它还可以修饰比较级,表示“更……”、“愈加……”。

Eg: He is still very busy. 他仍然很忙。

Jack is tall, but Mike is still taller.

杰克很高,但迈克更高。

36. job,work

Job作“工作”解时,特指“雇佣工作”之意,是可数名词,有复数形式。

而且,“零活”、“短工”只能用job表示。Work指需要体力或劳力的工作,

可指长期或短期,它是不可数名词,没有复数,其前也不跟不定冠词,但有、

时可与job互换。Works指“著作,作品;工厂”。此外,work还可用作动词,

Job却不能。

Eg: He looked for work for severalmonths and at last he found a job most suitable

for him.

他一连找了好几个月的工作,最后终于找到了一个非常适合于自已的工

作。

He did a lot of useful work. = Hedid a lot of useful jobs.

他做了很多有益的工作。

37.reply, answer

(1) 如果我们所说的“回答”是一种“答复”,那么两者可换用。

Eg: I wrote to him several times, but henever answered / replied.

我几次写信给他,但他总无回音。

(2) answer多指口头或书面回答。它没有reply正式,但作“解答”讲时,不可与reply互换。

Eg: Can you answer this question?

你能回答这个问题吗?(不用reply)

(3) reply指对别人的建议、意见、攻击等有计划性地做正式的书面或口头答复。reply一般用作不及物动词,接宾语时其后必须有to。

Eg: We replied to him that wewould start at once.

我们答复他说,我们将马上开始。

(4) answer作名词时可作“答案”讲,后接介词to,而reply则无此用法。

Eg: This is the answer to thequestion. 这就是这个问题的答案。

38.problem, question

(1) problem表“问题”、“难题”,通常指需要解决或决定的问题,尤指比较困难的社会问题、政治问题、数学或物理难题等,常与动词solve搭配使用。

Eg: It’s a difficult problem tosolve. 这是一个难以解决的问题。

He is working on a maths problem. 他正在演算一道数学难题。

(2) question表“问题”、“疑问”,常指由于对某事感到疑惑不解而提出的问题。

它常与动词ank或answer搭配使用。

Eg: It’s a difficult question toanswer. 这是一个难以回答的问题。

“Who is he?” is a question, not a problem.

“他是谁?”是一个问题,而不是一道难题。

39.centre, middle

(1) 指圆心或球心用centre,不用middle。

(2) centre指物体的正中,middle指中间或中部。因此,middle所表示的位置不及centre准确。

Eg: the centre of the room 房屋的正中央

the middle of the room 房屋的中间

the middle of England 英格兰中部

(3) 比喻用法中的“中心”只用centre表示,而不用middle。

Eg: the shopping centre 购物中心

an amusement centre 娱乐中心

(4) 指时间或活动时用middle,而不用centre。

Eg: in the middle of the month /year 在月中/ 年中

40. howoften, how long, how soon

(1) how often指动作发生的频率,即每隔多长时间发生一次,它与一般现在时或一般过去时连用。

Eg: -- How often do you take thismedicine?

你每隔多久服一次这种药?

(2) How long指某个动作或状态持续了多久,与延续性动词的一般时或完成时连用,回答用for + 一段时间,如:for a long time, for three days / months/ years。

Eg: -- How long have you studiedEnglish? 你学英语多久了?

-- For ten years. 十年了。

(3) How soon指还要多外才会发生某个动作或达到某种状态,与一般将来时连用,回答用in + 一段时间,如:in a few months(几个月后),in two days(两天后),in five hours(五小时后)。
